125th Anniversary 21/05/2010
125th Year 16/04/2010
I have been researching some of the Club’s history, in particularly the Club’s 1st World War Memorial. Of particular interest is the entry of Capt.. H. H. Robinson, MRCS; LRCP; DSO, a past President of the Club. I have contacted the RAMC Museum & have received the following entry: “Educated Owens College Manchester (M.C.R.C.S L.R.C.P London); was senior house surgeon of Southport Infirmary, later house surgeon of the infirmary Burton-on-Trent, and subsequently honorary medical officer of Birkenhead Children's Hospital. He served in the Great War from 1914 as a Temporary Captain in the RAMC. He was drowned on 4 May 1917. The D.S.O was awarded 25/8/16 which would be the Battle of the Somme.” Sadly his Army Records seem to be lost & I can find little more other than his first name was Henry. Does anyone know of anything else about Dr. Robinson, indeed anyone on the 'Roll of Honour'? The men listed are: *Capt. H. H. Robinson, MRCS; LRCP; DSO L. Corp. T. Doswell *Lt. D. V. Fletcher, MRCP; LRCS Pvt. R. Davies Staff Sgt. F. Reid Pvt. J. Gibson Qm. Sgt. H. S. Williams *Pvt. J. Gill *Sgt. W. Atherton Pvt. S. Hancock *Sgt. P. Hancock Pvt. G. Lawrence Sgt. W. Stacey Pvt. G. ![]() I have been contemplating starting a blog for some time & it has taken the Help 4 Hero's night last Saturday to get me going. What a fantastic night! By the time we handover the cheque (date to be announced) we will have raised over £2000. Thanks to all who helped make this a great night for the Club & H4H. Special mention of the band 'EI8HT' who gave their time for free & really got you movin'! Thanks also to Steve Ginnetty for giving us his DJ talents for free. Alan Hibbert proved to be a great MC, with Ian Watson as doorkeeper (bow ties are in now). Graham, our Entertainment Sec did a great job with the help of an army of people selling raffles, etc. - Carole, Peter, Debbie to mention a few. Let us not forget Jim Rimmer the Treasurer, there is nothing he delights in more than counting money & boy is he good at it!! Our brilliant bar staff worked so hard & gave up their tips for the cause. And of course all you people who came & gave so much. |
